Equity tools and toolkits are designed to guide self-reflection, stimulate dialogue, and motivate action by engaging systems in critical examination of policies, practices, dispositions, and attitudes.
 

Acting Upon Conscience: The Impact of Student Activism 

The purpose of this tool is to illustrate the role student activism has played in bringing about social justice and to provide examples and resources for supporting youth leading social change efforts.

Assessing Bias in Standards And Curricular Materials

The Assessing Bias in Standards & Curricular Materials Tool enables users to determine the extent to which developed standards and curricular materials reflect educational equity (Fraser, 1998, 2008; GLEC, 2011). The tool provides guidance in reviewing standards and curricular materials using equity-oriented domains. It also includes a scoring and analysis guide to assist with the evaluation process.

Anti-Harassment Policy Review Tool

This tool contains recommendations for reviewing anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-bullying policies. The recommendations or requirements are derived directly from agreements between the Office for Civil Rights and/or Department of Justice with real school districts, and may be considered basic guidelines for protecting students’ and families’ rights through school and district policies.

A Framework Toward Critical Literacy in Mathematics Instruction

This tool is designed to support educators in reflecting on their mathematics instructional practices and ways of being to move towards a more critically conscious stance. The tool offers four key domains of awareness and reflection prompts to support educators in cultivating Critical Mathematics Literacy (CML) themselves, and to support their students’ development of CML. The focus of the tool is on the educator as a critical practitioner and is intended to be used as a self-reflection guide.

Policy Equity-Analysis Toolkit

The Policy Equity Analysis Toolkit is designed to provide a comprehensive set of resources, tools, and processes for engaging in equity-oriented policy review and analysis. Users will engage in learning about a process for reviewing and critiquing systemic policies. Examples of what critical conversations about policy sound like are presented, as well as tools to support users in designing and implementing an equity-oriented policy review process in their local setting.
